Quinta Do Pinto
63 hectares of vineyards surround a traditional farmhouse in this family-owned wine estate in the Lisbon wine region

Quinta Do Pinto
Lisbon, Portugal
Located in Alenquer, in the heart of the Lisbon Wine Region, vineyards planted with a wide variety of grape varieties surround a 17th-century manor house.
According to legend, the wine produced here more than two centuries ago was so popular that it was worth more than the gold coin in circulation at the time, known as a Pinto. The estate was also referred to in the region as ‘o Pinto’ in recognition of a charismatic foreman, Don Pinto. By happy coincidence, Pinto is also the surname of the current owners.
Planted on 63 hectares of gentle slopes, the vineyard enjoys a southerly exposure. It is protected from the northerly winds by the Serra de Montejunto. With the ocean just 25 km away and an average annual rainfall of 700 mm, the vines benefit from the influence of the Atlantic.
The soils are mainly clay-limestone, originating from the Jurassic period, with a clay-loam texture. But the variation across the plots enables 27 varieties of both national and international red and white grape varieties to be grown here. This allows the winery to produce a wide range of wines of balanced complexity.
Nick comments, “The impressive privately-owned Anjo farm located in Lisbon’s Alenquer district occupies 120 hectares and is the base for this quality-focused project. I was immediately attracted to the warmth of the family and their ambition, completely rooted in authenticity with a sound business strategy. Quinta do Pinto is an exciting prospect for any aspiring connoisseur of Portuguese wine, and the winery team are right up there in terms of the future regarding sustainable practices, vegan products and minimal intervention to let the wine do the talking”

Quinta Do Pinto products
Lasso White
A brilliant expression of Portuguese varieties that are becoming increasingly popular in the UK: the citrus-dominated, appley Arinto gives structure and steeliness, whilst the Fernão Pires lends a lively floral and white peach character to this refreshing Pinto wine. Night harvesting of the grapes and cold soak before spontaneous fermentation in cement tanks ensure a sense of place prevails.
Pinto Touriga Nacional
Dark and brooding Touriga, yet lifted by a sea-breeze freshness. Complex autumn fruits with violet and a touch of mint fill the senses, with cedar from 12 months’ ageing in French and Hungarian oak adding a spicy, chocolatey toastiness to this multi-layered classic. Lovingly blended at the last by careful barrel selection.
