Nick Room, DipWSET (1991)
Nick graduated with a business degree in 1981 from Bath University School of Management. He began his career in retail buying and marketing, working at J Sainsbury’s Grocery Buying until 1985, and then moving to Boots (Foodcentres).
He joined Waitrose, the supermarket division of John Lewis Partnership, in 1987, specialising in various wine categories, notably Iberian, South American and Fortified wines. In 2006, Nick was invited to join the Gran Orden de Caballeros del Vino, was Chair for 10 years from 2010, and made a member of the Encomienda de la Orden Civil del Mérito Agrario for his contribution to Spanish trade. Nick also holds the Confraria do Vinho do Porto.
In August 2019, Nick set up RT Wine Solutions to pursue his interests in wine, and retain his many contacts across the world. A member of the WSTA and WineGB, an accredited Food Business Operator and personal licence holder, Nick is involved in many aspects of the fascinating wine trade. In February 2023, he joined the Livery as a Freeman of the City of London with The Vintners’ Company.
