Finca Élez

One of the founding members of the Grandes Pagos de España, Finca Élez was the first estate in Spain to be registered as a DO Pago.

Finca Élez

Albacete, Spain

The vineyards and winery of Pago Finca Élez are located in the municipality of El Bonillo, in the province of Albacete, to the south of one of the best preserved juniper groves in Spain, home to thousands of centuries-old specimens.

In addition, it borders the Natura 2000 Special Protection Area (SPA) in El Bonillo, where protected species such as great or little bustards are common.

Founded by Manuel Manzaneque, a prestigious actor, director and theatre producer, Finca Élez was created in 1992 and ten years later it became the first Spanish wine estate to obtain its own Appellation of Origin as a Pago.

Together with other great winemakers such as Carlos Falco (Dominio de Valdepusa), Paco Uribes (Calzadilla) and Victor de la Serna (Sandoval estate), Manuel Manzaneque was one of the founding partners of the Grandes Pagos de España association.

Certified organic since 2014, Finca Elez puts terroir at the heart of everything it does. The vineyards grow at high altitude, (1080 metres) on barren stony limestone soils with an extreme continental climate.

Nick comments, “With elegant mineral freshness, the wines of DO Pago Finca Elez show what can be achieved when international grapes are grown in Spain at high altitude. Certified organic wines that are really worth a taste.”
