Familia Martínez Bujanda

Established in 1889 and still family-run, the Familia Martinez Bujanda produces wine solely from its own estate vineyards across five wineries

Familia Martínez Bujanda

Rioja, Rueda, La Mancha, Castilla y Leon, Spain

Five wineries make up Familia Martínez Bujanda: Finca Valpiedra (DOCa Rioja), Finca Antigua (DO La Mancha), Finca Montepedroso (DO Rueda), Viña Bujanda (DOCa Rioja) and Cosecheros y Criadores (Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla), all with a common denominator: the production of wines solely from their own vineyards, but with the diversity and richness of very different growing areas.

The great-grandfather of the current generation, Joaquín Martínez Bujanda founded the original winery in Oyón (Álava) in 1889, to make wines from his own vineyards.

Now in the hands of the fifth generation, the family expansion began in 1951 with Cosecheros y Criadores, a winery in Rioja focused on export from the outset. The group now sells 60% of its production abroad under the Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla label and holds BRC certification.

“Vine growing and winemaking have been in this family for five generations. Since 1889, this business has built an admirable reputation for creating wines of personality with respect for terroir across the three regions where Bujanda’s wineries are located – in Rioja, Rueda and La Mancha. The dedication to viticulture is supremely evident in the wines of every level and hue.”

Finca Antigua Crianza Unico, DO La Mancha

The Finca Antigua vineyards are on limestone soils at 900 metres which give these wines a superb vibrancy. A significant diurnal temperature enables long hang time towards maturity whilst restraining alcohol yielding uniue personality to every Finca Antigua wine in the range. A blend of Tempranillo and Merlot gives lushness, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah giving power.

Infinitus Organic Tempranillo

Youthful, primary, dark berry fruit aromas with a fresh acidity and moderate alcohol, this versatile red has a broad, ripe palate showing a generous purity supported by invigorating tannins. Plum and damson on the finish, with some wild herb and the warmth that well-made Spanish wines exude when vinified with care.
