Bodegas Burgo Viejo
Six winemaking families came together to create Burgo Viejo. The winery controls 200 ha of its own vineyards in the Alfaro area of Eastern Rioja.

Bodegas Burgo Viejo
DOCa Rioja, Spain
At the end of the 1980s, six families of vine growers joined forces to create the Bodegas Burgo Viejo winery. Owning a total of 200 hectares of vineyards in the Alfaro area, in the eastern sub-zone now known as Rioja Oriental, the parcels stretch from the Ebro valley to the slopes of the sierra of Monte Yerga, offering a great variety of micro-climates and different soils.
With generations of vine growing experience, the winery optimises the care of its vines, which are an average of thirty years old and include some hundred-year old parcels. The focus is on local varieties Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Garnacha and Viura, with more recent organically-managed plantations of Graciano and Tempranillo Blanco.
The winemaking process is based on the highest standards of food safety, including BRC and IFS certification. Burgo Viejo’s wines have been recognised in some of the world’s most prestigious international competitions, such as Decanter, International Wine Challenge and Mundus Vini, as well as having achieved 90+ point scores from Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate, and Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar.
Nick Room says, “I’ve known of Burgo Viejo for many years. Their high volume capacity never compromises award-winning quality. As well as their own classically styled Burgo Viejo range, the winery is well equipped to create exclusive brands for major retailers.”

Burgo Viejo White Rioja
Viura has come of age as it has undergone a renaissance in Rioja, and this 100% varietal wine displays the native grape’s typically delightful apple fruit character. There’s some summer straw and white peach on the palate which is bright but softly textured. Sufficiently structured to produce a pleasant round and lingering finish.
Burgo Viejo Rioja Crianza
Tempranillo dominated, showing generous black fruit overlaid with soft sweet vanilla from American oak. Graciano provides remarkable perfume and lifted acidity, adding an extra dimension to the palate. Harmonious, integrated, powerful and complex, this versatile Crianza demonstrates a fine balance in the extended finish.
